Lifestyle: Law Debate.

Some of you may know that I currently study Law and Politics; and am looking to study Criminology (which relates to these two subjects also) at University. Therefore, I have been going to events to put on my UCAS form - and yesterday I went to a Law debate on Magna Carta with my two friends Emma and Leanne; and I thought I'd do a quick post to tell you about it!

We started the event by driving to the very fancy Rougemont Hotel in Exeter city centre (and getting a subway for dinner) where the event was held. We headed inside and were in awe of how posh it was! Then, we were lead to the room where the event was held. Once there, there was a drinks reception with canapés while everyone got acquainted and had their photos taken before the debate and talk.

After the reception, the lecture began with two professors of law and medieval history from Exeter University and Bristol University; as well as the Vice Mayor of Exeter and the president of the freedom association. They each did a talk on what they thought of Magna Carta and it's relevance today, followed by a question and answer debate which we got to ask about it's relevance to our own personal areas of interest which was my favourite part.

Overall the evening was a brilliant experience and I would thoroughly recommend going to any of the events ran by the Freedom Association as they are an overall fantastic learning experience!

Fashion: OOTD - Day 18 - Double Denim

Today I wanted a simple, casual outfit as all I have to do today is a couple of hours in college. I decided to wear this alternative take on double denim to create a comfy and casual yet still cute look.

I started with my favourite high waisted blue jeans (Primark, £10) and my Lee Cooper denim hi-tops (gifted) to create a unique take on double denim. To finish the look I paired it with this grey sweater with a cute pastel heart design (£10, Primark) to create an overall cute and casual look.

For my hair, I kept it simple and just tie it in  side ponytail; and for jewellery I just wore my fatima hand necklace (£6, Marrakesh Souks). Finally for makeup, I wore a dark brown eyeshadow (Urban Decay dark horse from the Naked 1 palette) with turquoise eyeliner (collection lasting finish felt tip liner in turquoise) to match the pastel jumper. Finally for lips, I wore this nude-pink lipstick (collection deluxe lipstick in Tallulah) to put the focus on the eyes.

Overall, this look shows that with little effort you can create a look which is comfy and casual, but still cute and looks really well put together. Also; it show how you can rock trends that are usually classed as being "uncool" (e.g. double denim) to create awesome unique looks.

Lifestyle: 5 tips for applying to uni.

I have recently just finished my UCAS application to apply to university and I thought I'd share with you 5 things I have learnt whilst doing this that my be useful for other people who are doing the same thing.

What I've applied to do.
I thought I would start by saying what courses I've applied to where, to make the answers a bit more relevant.
1. Criminology at Sussex University
2. Policing and Criminal Investigation at Staffordshire University
3. Criminal Investigation with Police Studies at De Montfort University
4. Policing and Criminal Investigation at the University of Central Lancashire
5. Criminology, Policing and Investigation at Birmingham City University

1. Find a course you fall in love with.
I wasn't originally planning to do criminology related studies at university; I was going to do straight Law - yet I was lucky I had a couple of tasters of Law at summer schools and discovered it wasn't for me. Then, I looked a some criminology courses and released I was so much more passionate and excited about it than I was about Law. I would highly recommend exploring every option you think you may be in the slightest bit interested in, and make sure you are fully involved with wanting to do that course before you apply.

2. Enhance yourself.
Get involved with as much as you can in year 11 and 12 that you can put on your application. I have completed NCS, summer schools, uni visits, public speaking competitions and more. All these activities will not only give you so many opportunities to meet people from all over the country who share similar interests; but also look great on you UCAS form as you will have loads of evidence of your skills to put in your personal statement!

3 Visit Universities.
I was convinced I was going to study in London until I spent a couple of days looking at universities in London and realised living in the centre of a big city all the time wasn't for me. There a such huge differences between campus and city sites, universities up north and down south - every one is unique so you'll never know if you like it until you see it!

4. Ask for help with your Personal Statement.
I struggle with writing things short and tend to blab on a bit - so being limited to 4000 characters was a huge challenge for me. However, what I found most useful was going through it over and over again with my tutor to get someone else to pick out what was good and necessary, and what wasn't. It is so difficult to critique your own work, and it is so useful to get a second opinion. I had mine looked at by my college tutor 4 times, and it was worth it to get it to the standard I wanted it to be!

5. Study the right subjects.
The most important thing to do if you know what you want to do at Uni when you start college is to make sure you study any necessary subjects in the entry requirements for the course you want to do. For example, for Criminology you have to study an essay subject at A level and have a GCSE grade B minimum in English Lit or Lang. If you don't chose the right subjects for you, then you could end up either not being able to do the course you want, or having to do an extra college or sixth form year.

I hope you enjoyed this and it was useful for all of you heading off to uni hopefully next year (or those who are preparing ahead of time!) - if you are applying to uni, let me know in the comments what you're applying for and where you want to go!

Fashion: OOTD - Day 17 - Mixed Materials

Today I am going to college for the morning, and then heading to Exeter for a law event (post coming soon!) so am changing outfits in the evening. Therefore, I wanted an outfit that was comfy and casual for college, but I could change out of quickly before we leave for Exeter.

I decided to mix up fabrics to create a cute and casual look with a modern twist. I started with this tan suede mini skirt (Primark, £10) and denim stud shoulder shirt (Primark, £8) to mix up two fabrics which work well together. I then paired it with a simple white vest top (Asda George, £4), black tights (£4, Asda George) and black lace ballet flats (Primark, £4) to put the focus on the contrast
with the shirt and skirt.

For hair, I need a style that was casual enough for college but formal enough for the event in the evening (and would last all day). I went with this low braided up-do; which I created by doing two braids on either side of my head, twisting them to create two braided twists, crossing them over and pinning them; to create a classy yet still casual look. For jewellery, I didn't want to go over board in case I lost something while changing, so just wore my Fatima hand necklace (£6, Marrakesh Souks). For makeup, I wore a simple nude eyeshadow (Urban Decay Naked from the Naked 1 palette) and then mixed it up with turquoise felt tip liner (Collection lasting finish felt tip liner in turquoise) and turquoise eyeshadow stick (Rimmel Kate shadow stick in pure turquoise) on my waterline. Finally for lips, I wore a more natural colour with a pink-nude lip butter (Collection lip butter stick in vintage rose).

With this look I wanted to show how it is really easy to add unique and personal touches to your outfit by just mixing up colours, fabrics and styles to create something very personal to you.

individuality. It is no taste I'm against".

Product Review: Rimmel Apocalips.

Today I thought I'd share a quick review of one of my favourite products of the moment - Rimmel Apocalips liquid lipsticks. I have split this into two categories - the regular Apocalips and the matter version - so let's get into it!

Rimmel Apocalips (COLOURS: Big Bang and Apocaliptic)
The first Rimmel apocalips product I purchased was this in the shade Big Bang; and from the first time I used it I loved it! These products not only last forever, but they are vibrant and pigmented, apply really easily and don't smudge! I am not usually a fan of liquid lip colours (whether it be lip gloss or liquid lipstick) but I had heard great reviews about the Rimmel Apocalips and took a chance on it - and it paid off! I really love these and the only flaw is that they take a little bit to dry and during that time sometimes they can get on your teeth; but other than that they are perfection!

Rimmel Apocalips Velvet Matte (COLOURS: Meteoric and Atomic Rose)
After falling in love with the regular Rimmel Apocalips, I discovered the velvet matte collection which - for me personally - are even better! Like the original Apocalips, they last a long time have vibrant colours and don't smudge. However (unlike the regular Apocalips) they dry immediately and therefore don't end up all over your teeth. Also, before I discovered these I had been looking for a matte lipstick but had not found any I liked - yet the velvet matte Apocalips lipsticks are perfect!

I hope you enjoyed this quick little review and if you have a product you have seen on my blog and want me to review in more detail, let me know in the comments!
