Lifestyle: top 11 TV series

Today I have decided to give you a taster of some classic TV. There are so many TV shows that I love to watch regularly and it was very tough to create a list - but I have managed to get it down to 11 (it should have been 10 but I couldn't decide!)
11.
24 Hours in Police Custody
As far as I am aware, this is just a British show, but for someone like me who loves to study law and criminology - this is a fascinating show to watch. It is a documentary series that follow the investigations into cases in the 24 hour period after someone is arrested. It is a great insight into how police custody works and how a variety of criminal investigations are carried out. This show is available on channel 4 in the UK.
10.
Rizzoli and Isles
American police drama series Rizzoli and Isles is set within the Homicide team at the Boston Police Department. It follows medical examiner Maura Isles, Detective Jane Rizzoli and the rest of the team as the solve a variety of murders. It is a fantastic show that not only keeps you in suspense with the complex crime solving story lines but also funny moments as you get to follow the relationships and back stories of the team and their families. It is a funny, exciting and thrilling every episode This show is available on Alibi in the UK and TNT in the USA.
9.
Torchwood
This is a classic British TV show that aired 4 seasons between 2006 and 2011 - and is a spin off of Doctor Who. This is a brilliant show which has all the classic qualities of Doctor Who (which I love) yet is a lot more grittier and dark, making it a more exciting, slightly more realistic and grown up alternative. It also has a brilliant cast with John Barrowmen reviving his Doctor Who role as Jack Harkness, and all the other characters relationships being at the centre of the show - giving it a relatable twist, and making the (SPOILER) multiple character deaths over the four series even more emotional. I loved every episode of this show and hope they revive it in the future. This show is no longer aired but can be bought on DVD on Amazon.
8.
Miranda
Miranda is a classic British comedy staring incredibly funny comedienne Miranda Hart (along with a host of other comedy and acting stars including Tom Ellis and Sarah Hadland). It is hilarious and full of classic British humour - with a variety of jokes coming from Miranda's awkward and clumsy mannerisms, yet relatable personality. It is a great family comedy show that was "SUCH FUN" to watch, and it is such a shame that it ended at the start of this year! This show is no longer aired but can be bought on DVD on Amazon.
7.
American Horror Story
This is a more recent show, which has forged it's way to be a cult classic TV show. The dark, gory and terrifying nature of this show is equalled out by the complex yet enthralling story lines to give it the perfect balance. Also, the new storyline and theme each season (with "Murder House", "Asylum", "Coven" and "Freakshow" so far) gives it repeatedly exciting revivals every year; yet the show always has the same eerie and dark atmosphere to it that makes AHS such an incredible show to watch. I love this show - it is one of those series you can get so in to that you can't help but watch a whole series in two days just to see what happens! I highly recommend it and can not wait for the new season to be released (especially with Lady Gaga guest starring!). Season 5 "Hotel" of AHS is airing on October 20th at 10pm on Fox in the UK, and in the US on FX on October 7th. Season 4 "Freakshow" is released on DVD October 26th 2015.
6.
The Mighty Boosh
The Boosh is a classic comedy unique from any other on British (or even world) television. It follows Vince Noir (Noel Fielding) and Howard Moon (Julien Barratt) along with their shaman friend Naboo and gorilla Bolo, as they go on a series of crazy and outlandish adventures. The unique comedic styles of Noel and Julian shine through as hilarity ensues when their characters repeatedly get themselves caught up in sticky situations and common themes (such as "Crimping") that flow through all 3 series for fans to love make it for me, one of the best shows to have been aired on British Television - all proven by the tours, music festivals and general international successes this show had. This show is no longer aired but can be bought on DVD on Amazon (along with the 3 tour DVDS and book).
5.
Sherlock
Sherlock is a cult British TV series based off of the classic stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, and star world renowned actors Bendict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Sherlock and Watson. The writing on this show is fantastic with it being loved be so many despite having only aired 9 episodes so far (with 4 more planned for the near future). I love it's twisting and turning mysteries and perfect modern take on the books that keeps you constantly on edge wanting to know what happens next. And any show that can generate such as huge fan bas along with conspiracy theories, merchandise and so much more whilst taking a two year break between series is clearly deemed for continuing success, and I hope it does have that because I love it! The christmas special of Sherlock is set to be aired around Christmas 2015 in the UK on BBC 1, and around the same time in the USA on BBC America. There is also plans for series 4 in 2016, which is currently being written.
4.
Criminal Minds
Criminal Minds is an interguing and enthralling American crime drama based around the talented profilers of the FBI Behavioural Anaylis Unit (BAU) based at Quantico. The show follows them as they use their skills to solve complex cases all over the USA. It lets you delve not only into the working lives of these characters, but the personal lives to and the way their work effects them. I personally think it is this real life element that makes the show not just and exciting crime drama, but relatable to every day people - keeping them watching every episode. I personally, am a huge fan! Season 11 airs September 30th on CBS in the USA and is set to air October 2015 in the UK.
3.
Doctor Who
Of course as a cult classic British show with world recognition, Doctor Who was going to be on the list. This SciFi show with it's relatable characters, scary yet exciting villains and overall fun factor. The writers of the show are able to change things up constantly (with regenerating doctors and assistants coming and going), yet still keep the same core feeling to the show that it's fans have grown to love. Every episode my whole family sit down together to watch doctor who and I'm always talking with friends about who our favourite doctor is (of course it always ends up being David Tennant) or which episodes we love - and it is this worldwide appeal and permanent excitement about the show which makes Doctor Who so amazing. The new series of Doctor Who airs on September 19th on BBC 1 in the UK and is set to air in Fall 2015 on BBC America in the USA.

2.
NCIS/NCIS LA
I have slightly cheated here by grouping these two together - but I couldn't chose one over the other! What I love about NCIS (a USA crime drama based around the Naval Criminal Investigation Service) is not just the intriguing cases that keep you guessing all episode (and sometimes all season!); it is the way the writers include the characters in this. In NCIS and NCIS LA, you have all the relatable characters varying from NCIS' stern yet caring Gibbs to goofy and funny Deeks in NCIS LA. It is the strange mix of contrasting characters that still work together well and are like family, and the dynamics between them, that viewers keep coming back for. With the shipping of Tiva (Tony and Ziva) and Densi (Deeks and Kensi) to the outroar when a main character is left in peril during an end of season cliff hanger - it just goes to show how NCIS and NCIS LA have successfully made an incredible crime drama that is loved by so many worldwide (including me!). NCIS season 13 will air on September 22nd on CBS in the USA, and is set to air on FOX in early 2016 in the UK. NCIS LA will air on September 22nd on CBS in the USA and is set to ear in early Autumn 2015 on Sky 1 in the UK.

1.
Strictly Come Dancing
SCD is the orginal of all the ballroom and latin dance competition shows currently airing. It brings glitz and glam, great music, competitive spirit and a lot of fake tan together in one show. It's repeatedly brilliant casts and loveable judges and presenters make the fans keep coming back for more. I have watched SCD since series one and always loved it - I make sure to be home for every show and am all tweeting along and discussing it in Twitter during the show. It is great to watch the dancing (good and bad) and score along at home - making it fun family entertainment for all the family. What I also love is watching as the celebs bond with their partners and develop in themselves as their dances skills (usually) improve week on week (and the love story that usually happens every year adds another exciting touch!). I love everything about strictly (including week day spin off show it takes two that follows the celebs in training and looks behind the scenes of the show) and you never know, if this blog takes off you may see me donning the sequins and taking to the dance floor in a few years time (and wouldn't that be a dream come true!). The next series of Strictly airs on September 27th on BBC 1, and USA equivalent  Dancing with the stars airs on September 14th on CBS.

I am currently looking for new shows to watch - so if you have a favourite that is available in the UK, then let me know in the comments!
